A dead tree surrounded by so much life, a superfood at that, caused me to have to stop and make its portrait.

Wild Children

I have no idea what these guys are. Saw them while walking down a dirt road. I think they're the same plant so I was trying to show the different stages of its lifecycle.

Spotlight

At one time I traveled a lot for work. Photography really helped me pass the time when hours from home with not much to do. Across from one hotel was a field of abandoned boats. It kept me occupied for days.

Sometimes You Feel Like A...

People always ask me what is this a picture of. They're walnuts!!! What we buy in the store is inside the green hull. Getting to the good stuff on the inside will stain your hands and clothes so be careful. The things country girls know.

Weather Worn

I spent a lot of time with this old gate, but this one is my favorite. This angle shows the texture and grain of the weathered wood and rusted iron.

The Moos on the Ground

Cows are cool. There were cows, a little barn, and mountains in the background. I had to stop.

Day Dream

Found while walking through my neighborhood. The old brick made it perfect for a black and white image.

Standout

Another one for always having your camera with you. Found this show stopper when I went to the library to do a little research. One passion always fuels the other.

Morning in the Mountains

I went up to Waynesboro, VA the weekend after Thanksgiving to hang out on Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Much to my surprise both were closed due to snow, so I shot the sunrise and early morning from the scenic pull-offs on the interstate. Worked out pretty well.

Fire in the Sky

Decided to photograph the sunset from the roof of a parking garage. It made me feel good to notice I wasn't the only one enjoying Nature's remarkable show.

Golden Sunset

Chickahominy Riverfront Park is one of my favorite places to sit and watch the water flow by. I'm so glad I always have my camera with me so I was to capture this sunset.

Snow Day

I cannot drive in the snow and I am of a people who cannot drive in the snow, so I don't have any snow images but want some, so I took one of my favorite childhood toys outside and created my own landscapes.

Buckroe Sunrise

My mom went to Buckroe Beach as a child and continued the tradition by taking my sister and me there. Since I'm so familiar with the spot I try to look for little details when I'm out there with the camera. Nature helped up this morning by putting the sunrise right over the rip rap.

Making it Rain

I was home alone and bored when I remembered there were a couple of fun guys hanging out in the yard. I made several images of this guy and didn't like any of them so I turned on the sprinkler to make things a little more interesting.

...Sometimes You Don't

I've never seen a squirrel with a pear (he didn't feel like a nut) so I had to chase him down. He dropped it right after I got this. I got his angry barks on video.

I try to take pictures of bees while they're distracted in the hopes I don't get stung.

Yellow Crocus

I was at a meeting at the historic house I volunteer at. We broke for lunch and I made a beeline to the garden to check out these plants I had never seen before (their portrait is called Spikes). Needless to say, I didn't get lunch that day. I was attracted to this guys bright yellow color.

These guys are cool looking and I had never seen them before at the time I made this image. I wanted to get to know them better so I made sure the background was out of focus.

Can I Tell You a Secret

The one open petal on this crocus made me feel like it was letting me in on its secrets.

I Love to Eat, Eat...2

I don't know where it comes from, but my sister sometimes sings this song that goes, "I love to eat, eat, eat, eat, eat apples and bananas." One day I thought of it in the grocery store and purchased an apple and banana that I carried around with me until the banana died. Photographing them against different backgrounds as I went. To get a bit more outside the box I decided to add a hedge apple to the mix.
